36" (90cm) 25-watt tubular storage dehumidifier suitable for dehumidifying and warming small enclosures up to 5.4 cubic metres (192 cu ft), for example: 1.2m deep x 1.8m wide x 2.4m high (4' deep x 6' wide x x 8' high) - about the size of a medium walk-in cupboard or fitted wardrobe, ceiling height.

The low-surface temperature and low-heat output provides a gentle, circulating warmth that will not burn or scorch clothes or paper. Ideal for dehumidifying and gentle background heating of cupboards, fitted wardrobes, vintage cars, boats, stamp and photography collections, document storage, electronics circuitry and any cupboard, wardrobe or enclosure that needs to be kept dehumidified and free of mould and damp air.

The mild, gentle heat provided by the low-surface temperature tubular heater creates a circulating airflow that helps to remove damp, musty air - one of the main causes of rust, corrosion, mould and allergens.

 

How are fitted wardrobe heaters different from normal tubular heaters?

Normal tubular heaters that are designed solely for heating (rather then dehumidifying) have a much higher wattage - typically around 60 to 90 watts per foot - which can produce tube surface temperatures of up to 150 degrees C.

Surface temperatures of that level can be dangerous if clothes (for example, in wardrobes or cupboards), paper or other combustible materials come in contact with the tube surface, and so heaters of that wattage usually need protective wire guards to be fitted for safety. They also have much higher operating costs per foot of length, and so are not usually left on continuously.

Due to the low wattage (around 7 to 9 watts per foot) and low-surface temperature (in the region of 35 to 45 degrees C - around the temperature of a non-fast coloureds wash in your washing machine) of these tubular dehumidifiers, no wire guards are necessary and the running costs are minimal (see below), so they can be left on for much longer periods, or continuously. They are also much less obtrusive and take up a lot less space - 22mm in diameter compared to (typically) 50mm diameter for normal tubular heaters.

 

How do fitted wardrobe heaters work?

The heater tube is a very simple electrical device that is mounted on the closet (or cupboard) skirting board or floor (brackets, screws and cable clips are included). The tube warms, dries and circulates the air in a confined storage space through a continuous convection process, lowering its relative humidity. As the air is warmed, it becomes lighter and rises to the upper section of the enclosed space. Some of the warmer, drier air will escape through any small openings around the door, taking moisture with it and drawing fresh air in at the bottom of the cupboard. The remaining warmer, drier air will cool and sink to the bottom of the cupboard where it is warmed again, and the process is then repeated to keep your stored items protected from rust, corrosion, mould and mildew.

 

What are fitted wardrobe heaters NOT intended for?

Although many of our customers successfuly use them in airing cupboards to keep (already dry) clothes and linen aired and dehumidified, Dampp-Chaser cupboard/fitted wardrobe heaters are not intended as airing cupboard heaters for drying clothes which have been put away damp; or for heating large areas such as entire rooms, or for heating areas to a normal room temperature.

They are not designed to be used in cupboards or spaces fitted with louvred doors or other openings, which would result in the dehumidifier attempting to warm a much larger volume of air than the enclosure in which they are mounted and were designed for. They are also not designed to be used in cupboards or wardrobes that have shelves, dividers or other obstructions that would stop the warmed air rising and circulating around the enclosure, or in cupboards/wardrobes that are situated on very cold exposed solid outside walls. If you have solid outside walls that are exposed to the weather and very cold, you will need a much larger wattage heater to compensate for the coldness penetrating through the wall(s).

  • Construction: The dehumidifier heater tubes are made from 22mm diameter extruded and drawn 0.635mm thick aluminium, alloyed with silicon, magnesium and iron which provides tube strength 4 times that of pure aluminium. The thermo-electric element in the heater tube is a type 304 stainless steel rod enclosed in a 3/16” glass tube, which in turn is embedded in expanded mica, providing a double set of insulating materials and an even distribution of heat.
  • Finish: The dehumidifier heater tubes are finished in appliance white and thermo-plastic coated with polyester to provide a high-gloss finish and maximum air movement around the tube. The two plastic end caps are also white.
  • Running Costs: Due to their low-wattage, the heaters are very economical in use. Typically the 36" (90cm) 25-watt heater costs around 3.7p/hour to run (calculated at an electricity price of 14.6p/kwh unit). This equates to approximately 9p per day, or 61p per week. If you don't want to have to have your heater running constantly, you can also operate it through a plug-in time switch to turn on at set times through the day or week.
  • Voltage: Dampp-Chaser cupboard/wardrobe heaters are 230v. Double-insulated for safety, and come with a pre-fitted 3-pin fused UK plug and 3m of cable.
  • Usage: Indoor use only.
  • Safety Certifications: CE certified for use in the EEC, and certified by the Underwriters Laboratories Inc (Listed # E19441) for use in the USA. Similar certifications exist in other countries.
  • Guarantee: A 10 year manufacturer's guarantee is provided against defects in materials or workmanship. Let us know first, then return any defective item(s) to us and we'll arrange replacement. Tubes must be mounted horizontally with free air circulation around them.
